Small Bathroom Storage Solutions

Bathrooms in New York City are consistently one of the tightest areas of apartment living. Even if you are fortunate enough to have a spacious bathroom, ample storage is still scarce. A few key steps to consider for small bathroom organization: remember to utilize vertical space, find pull out solutions for too-deep cabinets, keep everyday items within an arms reach and label label label.

As a long-time professional organizer, I've learned what products are storage solutions and what products cause more clutter. Below, I've rounded up a few of my favorite small bathroom storage solutions that will help minimize clutter, maximize space and organize.

FOR UNDER YOUR SINK:

The key to utilizing under sink storage is to make everything easy to see, and easier to reach. I love using these pull out mess drawer systems to clearly label contents. Their smooth glide design ensures you can see everything on your shelf without having to crouch down and dig through the shelves.

FOR YOUR DRAWERS:

The most common mistake I see my clients make is purchasing organizational products without a plan. They select a "one size fits all" drawer divider and are left with divided compartments that don't fit the products they need to divide. For example, a drawer divider with three large compartments in a child's bathroom will prove useless in corralling small hair clips, tiny tooth brushes, or dental floss. Additionally, a divider with too small of compartments often won't fit a tooth paste tube. By working with a professional organizer, you can assess which items are stored in bathroom drawers, and find a customized storage solution.

FOR YOUR SHOWER

Showers often collect large amounts of clutter which can lead to mold and mildew buildup. Start by recycling old shampoo, conditioner and body wash bottles. Try to cut back to one of each type. While you're at it, consider swapping to a sulfate-free, all natural brand that can serve each member of your family. I've been loving the Beautycounter line of bath and body products for their natural and safe ingredients and beautiful packaging. I've also become a fan of Living Proof cleansers for their ability to protect hair from city grime in the air. For a clutter-free and sanitary shower, get bottles and soaps off the ground. Look for lucite products that won't rust and can be scrubbed easily, and consider mounting soap dispensers to eliminate clutter all together.
