4 Steps for Keeping a Tidy Home

Our homes should be a space of peace and rest, and keeping a clean home is key in lowering stress and keeping your headspace clear. Mastering the art of keeping a tidy home may seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be! Today I’m breaking it down into four manageable steps! Follow these tips to save time and simplify your cleaning process.

Set Up a Cleaning Station

One of the best ways to save time in your cleaning routine is to keep all of your supplies in one place. This gives you a place to start and finish your routine. Keep things like your vacuum, mop, and broom together, and use a bucket or caddy for portable storage of your cleaning products. Take it with you from room to room so that everything you need is always within reach!

Simplifying your collection by adding in “multi-purpose” products is another great way to streamline your routine and ensure all of your supplies fit comfortably in your chosen storage solution.

Keep a Schedule

Creating a master schedule will work wonders in your home. Break your home down into manageable sections, and it’ll become second nature to do each task on its designated day. Your home will stay cleaner throughout the week and you’ll avoid the burnout of trying to clean an entire home in one day. Check out the sample schedule below! Keep it in a place where all family members can see, and delegate tasks as needed.

Monday & Friday - Vacuuming and Mopping

Tuesday & Saturday - Bathrooms

Wednesday - Dusting

Thursday - Windows & Glass

Monday, Wednesday, & Saturday - Laundry

Every day - Kitchen Counters

If there are rooms in your home that are rarely used, like a guest bedroom, skip them in your weekly schedule and just touch them up twice a month.

Invest in Your Vacuum

A powerful, space efficient vacuum is one of the most important investments you can make in your cleaning routine. A great vacuum can save you time up front and in the long run— removing more debris and allowing your space to stay cleaner in between vacuums.

Use Time Wisely

There are a few tasks that can and should be done concurrently! If there’s a part of your cleaning routine that doesn’t need your full attention (think dishwasher or laundry machines running), use that time to check other things off your list like wiping down counters and tabletops.

I hope you’ll give these tips a try, and that they’ll become habit for you and your family! Your home will stay fresh and tidy, and you’ll all have more time to enjoy it (and each other!)
